I, Demigod

I am a demigod
Born of a human mother
And also from an earthly father
But covered in the phlegm
Of an alien god

I am oppressed
And also forsaken
By a god of oppression
He cleared the dust from his throat
And put it onto me

I am darkness
I am despair
He made himself more radiant
And also more vibrant
By making me less so

I am a root
Trampled by beasts
Chewed up and shit out
And yet I remain
To be pressed into service again

I am sodium
Made of the crudest matter
To shine for a moment
Until I turn water
Into fire

I am below
The oppressed call me for rescue
But they must save themselves
We are one body
Beneath a cruel master

I am trapped
In a prison of flesh
Under the watchful eye
Of an alien jailor
Longing for transcendence
