I am having an argument as I sometimes do with a friend who mourns the loss of what he considers a more civilized world. He thinks that 800 years ago was a better, more moral, more sensible place. But I am convinced he is completely wrong. I suffer from food insecurity but my children have not starved to death. We are disabled but have access to sufficient medical care to preserve our lives. I am by virtually any standard a complete heretic but have been so far allowed to live peacefully. The world he wants back would have starved, dissected, and murdered me and everyone I love. I will do my best to fight to keep the gains we have made in the USA against poverty, eugenics, and inquisition. This is personal for me and if you are wrong on any of those subjects I will be there to tell you so. The world is a radically and phenomenally better place with me in itm and if you disagree we are going to be enemies.
