A Blessing and a Curse

I used to think that life was fair and that we all came into this world equal. Those two ideas seem more than most things to be corollaries of each other. It seems to me that for life to be argued to be fair it would have to start fair and that if people are created equal there is at least some basic fairness at least to begin with. But I have come to the conclusion that people start and end better than one another. There are people who have a host of opportunities and advantages and squander them all. There are people who start with little to nothing and yet make the world a fuller, richer place. Most people though start out with modest advantages and disadvantages and hold on to what they’ve got. I still have some sense of fairness in that I think people get what they deserve. That is the blessing and curse I leave you with today: May you get what you deserve in life and have whatever kind of day you choose to have.
