Consistency

I have blogged at least once a day everyday for just slightly over three months. This is to date the most successfully I’ve journaled (if you can call it that) in my lifetime. I think the key to my consistency lies in the fact that this journal is to some small degree performance art. Not a lot of people are reading my writing, and it doesn’t seem like anyone in particular is reading it every day, but there is a satisfaction in visitors, views, likes, and comments. That’s something that actual journaling doesn’t have. Keeping a private journal requires making a commitment to myself. I have always be lousy at keeping my promises to me. A blog on the other hand is a commitment to you my dear reader. Some of you I imagine would miss me if I stopped doing this. So I make a promise to you that I will try to extend my writing streak. It might just be a little bit every day but I want to keep doing this everyday. If I end up with a real full fledged journal out of this exercise then my consistency here will probably prove valuable to the world and perhaps even to me. Keep being awesome; because, you know I will.

  1. I kept private journals for years on end. Started when I was young. I am always, always, always writing something.

I write other things too, even now, but in my view, the blogging I do, and that of most of the fellow bloggers I interact with, is more akin to neighbors visiting over the back fence. Differences to be sure, but I don’t attract a large crowd, and neither do most of those I get with.

Some bloggers get huge followings. Some are professional journalists. Some are “influencers.”

But in my view, and the way I practice it, I float out a topic of discussion, share my thoughts, and hope someone “bites.” Sometimes, I do a little influencing myself. Sometimes I am a bit influenced too. But mostly, we just be neighbors being neighborly.

    1. There is a prohibition in Mormonism against priestcraft (selling one spiritual gifts and insights). I try to mind that here. I have other places on the internet that I hope to get bigger and maybe pay some bills. But I want to be careful that I’m not monetizing my witness. I thank you for being a good neighbor. I will try to be a good one for you as well.
