Once in a while I see a post about how the memories of your childhood aren:t ever the ones from sitting in front of a TV. That is simply not correct in my case. I remember staying up late to watch SCTV and laughing like crazy at John Candy. I also remember the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon and wanting the bow the ranger had. And I remember especially sitting with the family and watching the finale of MASH and crying with everyone else.
Along those lines I also remember my earliest experiences with video games. Playing Adventure on the Atari stuck with me as did putting in Asteroids and playing for hours and hours. I rolled the counter over and decided that meant I won. The devices that entertained me left a lasting impression. One of my fondest memories is tuning an old and huge Grundig radio and occasionally picking up a Canadian station. I was about eight the first time I heard Anne Murray’s “You Needed Me.” I fell in love with the song and her voice in ways that still move me today.
So enjoy all your memories. Even the ones that people say you are not supposed to have. And as always: Keep being awesome.
