The Value of Books

I recently purchased a medium sized lot of books. A friend is trying to get bills for her dog paid and is downsizing her possessions to do that. I was happy to help. Most of the books are old Wisconsin Supreme Court case law books that had been covered in cloth to use as decorations for a wedding. They are mostly worthless. The notion of books that belong in the garbage is repugnant to some people. I have a pretty good idea how much each individual book is worth both as a physical artifact and as a source of information. I want to assure you that in both those regards these books have little to no value. Our city does not have a good way to dispose of such books probably at least in part because many people reject the idea that it is sometimes appropriate to dispose of books. So they are going in trash bags a few at a time and into the garbage bins to send them to the landfill. It is the right thing to do but they don’t make it easy.
