I have a daily habit tracking app. I try to do seven things every day. One of them is to blog. I’ve gotten kinda lazy here. I answer the WordPress daily prompt. That counts for one. It doesn’t really feel like journaling though just the bare minimum to stay active on the site. The prompts are also what gets seen. When I make stand alone posts like this one the algorithm is rarely kind. Still I feel actually journaling counts for more in the grand scheme of life and hopefully people will go back and read it.
I also want to make sure I am making at least a little art everyday. I’m good at what I do but I want to continue to improve. My wife and I are developing a portfolio of collaborations to sell commercially, but I still want to do the fun stuff every day even if it’s not likely to make much money. If I want a career as an artist I need to treat it as such. Hobby level enthusiasm produces hobby level results. So I do something every day and check a little box when I’m satisfied that I have made art.
My other daily goals are more mundane. Check on my son. Get dressed. Leave the house. Shower. I also give myself a little credit for scripture study but I feel like I’ve been doing the bare minimum on that as well. It’s good to track my habits because I can see which things I am doing consistently. I also get a tiny shot of dopamine from checking all the boxes. Stepping stones to a destiny.
