The Commodore 64

Write about your first computer.

I wanted to play Dungeons and Dragons and heard about a Commodore 64 game called Pool of Radiance. I needed the game of course which came on 5&1/4 inch floppy disks. I believe there were a total of 8 in the set. To play it I needed a Commodore 64 which was basically a mother board and a key board in a heavy plastic case. Along with that I needed an external floppy disk drive to get the previous two to communicate. There was no installation. I played right from the disks and when I moved to a new area I changed which disk it was and waited about five minutes for it to boot up. It was an incredible game for the time period but it took forever to play so I didn’t ever get very far. The memories are strong and the nostalgia is even stronger. The whole game series Forgotten Realms is available on Steam now. It runs wicked fast and I have gotten so much farther than I did as a teenager. It was the first game and computer system I bought for myself and will always remain a favorite.
