The world is less lively than it was when I was a child. It is cleaner and safer. The demands of living are more predictable. At least the ones from out there. I have a certain nostalgia though to a time that was dirtier and more dangerous. When I was a kid I could ride laying down in the back of a station wagon. That’s against the law now. It was a thrill to stay up for days at a time. Now it just means I’ve missed my meds. I was never any good at writing letters or making phone calls to keep in touch with the people I love. Now they are just a text away. I joke about how kids today with their climate change and COVID 19 will never know the sheer terror of the threat of total nuclear annihilation. We are in a better place but sometimes I long for a world that is good and well gone.
