My Kids and Their Autism

What experiences in life helped you grow the most?

I was a very free man when I met my oldest son for the first time and knew I had to take some responsibility. It was the beginning of a journey into understanding brand new human beings and realizing how much like me they were. Three more boys later and a lot of responsibilities, I heard the word autism for the first time. It’s good to be able to put names to things even though autism can be kind of an ugly name sometimes. There were a flood of behavioral words for several years. I learned about pica, scripting, stimming, and dysregulation. All of these were applied to my three younger sons, but they all also applied to me. Raising four boys has taught me more about life and myself than I could have ever imagined.
