You probably already know I play a lot of video games. Lately it’s been Skyrim. The gameplay has me thinking of all the things that would be illegal in real life. One in particular is walking into bandit lairs uninvited and heavily armed. They try to kill you sure, but they’re kinda right. If someone barged into my home with weapons drawn I would try to deescalate the situation but barring that I am entitled by the Castle Doctrine to use proportional force up to and including lethal force. Even in a more realistic scenario where aggression and hostility are variable depending on the exact situation (it’s not in Skyrim) those bandits have every reason and maybe even every right to kill my character. But Skyrim literally lets you get away with murder and the biggest punishments are 10 days in jail or a 1000gp fine. It’s a “just us” system where the bandits are concerned. Thanks for reading.
