Mormon Polytheist

I referred to myself as a Mormon Polytheist yesterday. I used the term to give a snapshot of why I often side with heretics and pagans. While it is accurate to describe myself as a less active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, that is a mouthful and gives much less information in all that pomp and circumstance. As I say frequently I do not feel comfortable just calling myself a Saint. So even though the word is advised against by The Church I call myself a Mormon. It denotes my assertion that The Book of Mormon is my central motivation. The LDS Church calls it a complement to the Bible. I think the Bible is rather complementary to modern revelation. That’s a lot to unpack from one word but Mormon is the best word to start that unpacking. As for Polytheist, I believe in Heavenly Father, Heavenly Mother, Jesus Christ (one heavenly child), and the Holy Ghost (a heavenly force). That’s four gods or divine aspects at least. As aspects of the Principle of Intelligence they are manifestations of an unmanifest divine reality. So again Polytheist is the best word to start unpacking that aspect of my religious and spiritual life.

And then there’s the four coiled snakes I created yesterday. They are not principles of the divine. The snake is a very earthly and material symbol. I wonder if I have stumbled into a spiritual avenue that I need to explore. Material principles are valid, but I don’t yet know which ones correspond to the divine principles I already revere. It will take study and prayer to know what if anything those snakes really mean.
