Provisional Thinking

I have come to the realization that one of my more peculiar quirks is that I reject ontological certainty as a class. I have a desire to continue a lifelong journey of learning. I wish to increase my share of both human and divine knowledge. That takes a level of humility on the lines of admitting how little I know. But it also makes me critical of how little we know as a species as well. There are two main concerns from which I am often inundated. Those two frameworks which while popular, I must to be of good conscience reject. On the one side, I reject settled science. All scientific knowledge is preliminary and the stuff that has made it into my own head leads me to be skeptical of it. On the other side is scriptural inerrancy. I must reject that too for many of the same reasons. My experience with the divine must be preliminary and resist final immutable forms. Not many people are that honest in both regards. I aim towards that honesty and to learn more and better because of that aim.

  1. In order to be open to the truth, you have to be willing to let go of the meanings you have attached to explain the few truths you know. We have to be able to recognize that truths are multidimensional and that they must be understood from all their dimensions before they are fully understood. In all likelihood, we are not capable of that in our mortal form, which is why we recognize the divine/spiritual as being more knowing that we are because they experience truth from more dimensions than we do. But that does not mean that archaic understandings of those truths are the most human beings are capable of understanding of them. As human beings, we are not only capable of learning things other human beings already know, but we are capable of learning things no other human beings ever figured out before. Our hope, as a species, is our fellow human beings continue to solve the problems we face, both as individuals and as a species, Our best hope is when all human beings are empowered to discover the unique truths they alone can discover and share those truths with those who have the other pieces of that truth to broaden our understanding of the multidimensional aspects of the truth that we can access.

    1. Two things occur to me from your response. Letting go of the meanings we have attached to truth seems very much like the goo of a chrysalis that we have discussed at length. When we let go of those provisional meanings it is very much a matter of drawing in and reconfiguring. But we cannot reconfigure our caterpillars if we hold on to them. When our meanings are seen as final forms we give up the ability for them to be reincarnated as a butterfly is. This chrysalis phase is not a one time thing. It is and series of letting go of meaning and allowing them to be reincarnated in a much more beautiful form.

You also bring up empowerment but I think I disagree that this process is about being empowered but is rather a step towards empowerment by letting go of those thing that preliminarily empower us. When knowledge and divinity flow though us we become an aspect of it. We can choose how much or how little we allow that, but I think if our goal is to be empowered then we are making the more limiting choice.

I love you Dear. Thanks for commenting and for helping me to overcome my preliminary empowerment.

  2. I love you too and I think we both expressed ourselves effectively, at least to each other.

      1. I would not mind if this conversation went viral and people crossed over to my blog to figure out what we were talking about. I just don’t want them to show up at the house.

      2. Rats, I’m thinking about how nice it would be for more people to bring gifts to the house in exchange for my physical art.
