I am arguing with another WordPress user about whether what I believe is harmful nonsense. She is still convinced it is and I am still convinced it is not. There are a lot of words flowing, but we are mostly just contradicting each other.

I think it’s truly harmful if it affects your life negatively. Most people appreciate spirituality because it leads people to some kind of peace, or meaning to life. The saying ” many paths to the same God” is true I believe. Anywhoo, we all know spirituality and religion is subjective. There are no facts. It’s all what resonates with you in your soul. We’re all going to die someday, it’s inevitable. Live life and believe what brings joy to you, at the end of that day no matter what we believe, ultimately how we treat others is the most important thing. But again, that’s also subjective lol.

Thank you. I have endeavored to study many faith traditions over the years. While I didn’t ultimately decide to become a Muslim or a Baha’i, I do find things about their religion moving. And even though I disagree with Jehovah’s Witnesses on most things they still have a special place in my heart because they were one of the few groups that reached down to me when I was really low in life.

I also find truths in many beliefs. At the end of the day tho, we’re all humans and not what we believe. I’m glad those people were kind to you , I hope it was for the sake of being kind and not in the name.of religion. There’s a fine line in religion.. sometimes it robs people of the very heart God gave them. Shame.

Both Jehovah’s Witnesses and LDS missionaries are intent on actively proselytizing. I think people need that sometimes but it has its drawbacks. I have great love for many members of my local ward, but the full time missionaries come and go faster than I can keep up with them. Most of them seem very rigid coming right from the missionary training center. But I am a lot more spiritually mature than when I first met a pair of them, so they just seem like kids to me now.

Btw, I personally believe in God and that nobody is going to hell. I think we’re all a bunch of silly human beings thinking we know everything, but we don’t. There’s just too much ego in all of it . We make choices and we have to live with the consequences….but I can guarantee that nobody is going to hell. I DO think people with evil and cruelty inside them WILL have to be reborn to suffer the same evil inflicted on others. All just beliefs tho.

I’m not religious. I just believe in a relationship with God , or higher power, as a means of transformation and guidance. I think religion can be good for some but not all . I think indoctrination is evil as it robs a person of God given right to choose or think for themselves…. pretty sure God gives free will. Not everyone is a one size fit all person, were all multi faceted individuals

I have a stronger belief in the concept of moral agency than any particular version of the divine. I am convinced that the world will be a better place when people can be assured of robust conscience protections. We certainly live with the consequences of our choices and should be allowed to make them when they do not actively harm one another. That is a big reason for me to take people seriously when they accuse me of actual harm. That has been a concern in the comments for these posts. I am not convinced that indoctrination is necessarily harmful as you are, but even teaching children by rote should have the end goal of a fuller and richer intellectual and spiritual life.

Also, you can only guide your children. I’d do it gently, with love, and understanding that ultimately they will decide for themselves what that is

Three of my kids are on the autism spectrum. Gentle nudges are sometimes insufficient. I love when they reach the level of communicative intent though despite it being rare for the younger two.

Do what you gotta do. There is no parent manual. But you sound like a decent dad. That’s a big plus already.
