The Grand Poobah

Are you seeking security or adventure?

Between security and adventure I would choose security. But what I really want is attention and after that abundance. I would certainly like to be relatively secure that I have a captivated audience. I would also like to be secure in the wealth I earn. But change is the only eternal constant. Politically I’m conservative (law and order), but spiritually I’m progressive (a pioneer spirit). As a father I want security for my family but as a lover I want adventure or at least variety. As a priest I want an established organization to which I can retreat after my spiritual adventures. As an artist I want creative adventure every time I make a new piece. This post reminds me of the lines from The Mikado when I played the Grand Poobah. He gave The Lord High Executioner Koko a page full of conflicting advice in his many roles as a counselor. The world pulls me in all the directions he did.

  1. Perhaps you have forgotten how to separate the characters you play and the person who plays them.

      1. But that doesn’t help the dreamer know himself, that is how the dreamer hides himself from the world.

      2. Sometimes being on stage is a good way to hide from the world.

      3. And sometimes it is a good way to teach. Ben just threw up in the sink.
