Traditions, What are those?

What traditions have you not kept that your parents had?

We had a lot of traditions as a family when I was growing up. For instance on Christmas Eve my father led a midnight mass. We would stay up late for the service. When it was done we went home and opened presents. To this day I don’t know how the present got there. Dad and Mom were present at the service the whole time. My kids never even understood a “traditional Christmas” and the LDS Church doesn’t do a special service for Christmas. My dad had a Lenten calendar that I would put a quarter in every day of Lent except Sundays. The calendar had ten dollars worth of quarters at the end which we donated. The LDS Church doesn’t do Lent and ten dollars in quarters is more trouble than it’s worth nowadays. I never even tried to teach my children Lent. We would visit relatives for Thanksgiving. It was usually my dad’s parents for the feast. My kids only eat certain foods so Thanksgiving was out. Nobody in my nuclear family likes parades or fireworks. I’ve been typing for five minutes and can’t think of a single tradition I observed as a child that my own children have as well. Weird that.
