The LDS tradition has a peculiar concept. Members are encouraged to take on the name of Christ. This is largely metaphorical. No one is supposed to actually change their last name. But oddly enough one of my forefathers farther back than we have accurate genealogy literally took on the name of Christ. The LDS Church didn’t exist back then so it was likely a personal choice not a religious one. But that leaves me in a quandary with the doctrine. I bear the name of Christ. Well it got changed to Crist which I’m sure subtly changes the meaning as well. Is Crist a servant of Christ or an imposter? Is my duty to take on the name of Christ fulfilled or is the literal name of Crist a hindrance to the spirit of the doctrine? I’m doing a soft media fast so I have plenty of time to study, ponder, and pray about the subject. It’s amazing how much time I get back by cutting out mobile games, Facebook, and YouTube. For now my ramblings will be here. I’d love to know how you take on the name of Christ.
