It is the “anniversary” of the 9/11 attacks in the USA. Americans were nicer to each other in the days that followed. Facts were scarce to begin with so people hadn’t started arguing about who did it and why. But it didn’t take long for some people to paint Muslim Americans with a large bloody brush. On the other side there were accusations that it was an inside job. But most vowed that the USA would never be the same. But 23 years later we have fallen back into our patterns of tribalism mixed with apathy for those that aren’t like us. Sadly that seems to have actually gotten worse since the attacks. Tragedy can bring together a country temporarily, but lasting change is a labor of love. We still need to be a better country than we are now. That takes hard work which we are not doing. If you are reading this and in the USA, I ask you to put aside your differences and build a better country for all Americans.
