I just read along with an audio of the seventh chapter of the Gospel of Mark. The disciples weren’t washing their hands before they ate. The Pharisees were upset because it violated the laws of ceremonial cleanliness. Jesus tells them they are teaching the commandments of men instead of the commandments God. But the thing is that Jesus was wrong and the Pharisees were right. In fact a lot of the little rules in the Old Testament have proven to be sound over thousands of years of tests. Whether someone needs to be ceremonially clean before one eats is a question of faith, but if you happen to be washing the germs off your hands at the same time you will probably live a longer, healthier life. Do things we eat “defile” us? No, but they can make our bodies unhealthy. So all I’m saying is even if you follow Jesus you should still wash your hands before you eat.
