Thinking about Islam

There is a pervasive sense that Islam is inherently violent. Some compare the violence that Christians have exhibited until the very recent past. Perhaps Muslims just need to catch up with the modern world in order to accept that killing apostates and atheists and gays doesn’t win hearts in this day and age. I mean it probably never did but when a whole society can enforce compliance it might seem that hearts are in the mosques when it is really only bodies. I ponder the notion that there should be no compulsion in religion. It is a sound doctrine but one that will inevitably leave the religious uncomfortable when good souls disagree. And if you are a Muslim reading this I want to assure you that good souls do in fact disagree. If you are angry with me for this paragraph and you choose to fuel that anger it only perpetuates the sense that your religion is violent. If I am wrong do not be angry with me, teach me. Show me why you believe what you believe. Convince me without compelling me because I am as certain as anything that this is a correct principle.
