Following Directions

I learn best by doing things wrong and realizing that I have done them wrong later. Then I do something different and hopefully less wrong. I repeat the process by hopefully again continuing to be incrementally less wrong as I continue to go. This is time consuming and not always productive, but when I have gotten good at something I generally know I have explored all avenues. But today I am thinking about the first time I made Kool-Aid. I had a pitcher, clean water, and a Kool-Aid packet that said in big bold letters “Makes one gallon.” I wanted a gallon of Kool-Aid, so I mixed the packet and water into the pitcher. It was awful! You see the fine print said “…just add sugar.” This is the kind of thing that has made me suspicious of following directions. I learned the hard way but didn’t make the same mistake twice.
