“7 Now there was no law against a man’s belief; for it was strictly contrary to the commands of God that there should be a law which should bring men on to unequal grounds. 8 For thus saith the scripture: Choose ye this day, whom ye will serve.” Alma 30 (Book of Mormon)
It would be an inspiring principle if the rest of the chapter wasn’t about a man named Korihor who preached against the Gospel, was bound and taken before the High Priest and Chief Judge, and was forced to recant his testimony. He was absolutely punished for sharing his beliefs and his interrogators didn’t acknowledge his rights that 7-8 just made clear. Sad day in scripture.
