“Wherefore, he has given a law; and where there is no law given there is no punishment; and where there is no punishment there is no condemnation; and where there is no condemnation the mercies of the Holy One of Israel have claim upon them, because of the atonement; for they are delivered by the power of him.”
2 Nephi 9:25
Those who do not know a law cannot be condemned by it. It is unrighteous to condemn a man who does not understand why he is being condemned. So for instance little children are not subject to sin and are saved through the merits and mercies of God. But as we mature we become accountable. As we learn a law we can be blessed or condemned by it. The Saints cannot hold those without the knowledge of our doctrine and covenants as if they had it. The Jews are accountable to Jewish law. Christians are accountable to Christian law. Muslims to Muslims law and so forth. I have never learned the Laws of the Temple, so I cannot be condemned by them. So for instance I have not covenanted the Law of Consecration. I have not given all that I am and own to the service of God. I cannot be condemned for failing a covenant I have not made but I also cannot be blessed by it. I cannot expect Celestial Glory if I do not live the Celestial Law. I won’t condemn you in your ignorance but I assure you that you cannot be blessed in it either.
