Latter Day Sinner

Today I has been thinking about the Protestant concept that the Bible alone is the only source of divine truth. I was discussing it with a Catholic friend who rightly points out that the canon of the Bible we have comes from Catholicism and that the Catholic tradition is bigger than the Bible they gave the Protestants. As a Mormon I reject the finally of the Bible so Sola Scriptura falls flat for me for different reasons. I believe in general revelation and that includes the Bible. I am in safe theological waters as far as the LDS Church is concerned to believe that The Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price are also general revelation. I personally believe that the Bhagavad Gita, the Tao te Ching, and the Quran are also general revelation. The last part ruffles Mormon feathers. I was specifically counseled that the Quran was a satanic book for instance. I have never agreed with that appraisal so I left that counsel as someone else’s personal revelation and I am entitled to mine.
