Heavy Hearts

William came over to do his laundry. I made us Hawaiian bread mini hotdogs. We both enjoyed them and the box is gone. We also talked about the divorce. Stephanie assures him that our family is still “together.” I disagree and I can feel that as much as he wants things to go back to the way they were that a divorce breaks a family. I love him and so does she but I can’t cover up the truth that she and I don’t love each other to spare his feelings. I want him to understand what is happening and I think he is capable of doing that. I won’t sugarcoat the meaning of divorce just because it makes his heart heavy. It makes my heart heavy too. Sometimes that is the price of being an adult.

  1. I never said our family was still “together.” I told him that he would still be able to see both of us at the same time, which he did today.
