My “Superstition”

Are you superstitious?

The strongest argument I know for the existence of God or gods is The Watchmaker. If you are walking on the beach and see a watch you know it is designed because you have the sand with which to compare it. It speaks of a Great Principle of Intelligence that designs, creates, sustains, and judges the universe at least to me. But to see design there must be something to compare. There must be chaos in the system. There must be an element of luck. Ghosts in the gears. Independent intelligence in opposition sometimes to the Great Principle. We need, I think, to be able to tap into that chaos and randomness to have something resembling freewill and moral agency. That is what I believe however superstitious it might seem.
