The whole story

About two weeks ago one of the breakers tripped and Ben started asking for lightbulbs. When I realized it was the breaker not the bulbs, I tried to switch it on, but it kept breaking. Ben was furious but it was nine at night and we had to sedate him to stop screaming. We also told him we’d get an electrician the next day. He hates when the answer is “tomorrow.” But he eventually fell asleep and we did get the electrician in the morning. He checked the breaker but couldn’t get it to stay on either. He did a thermal photo of the box and the main breaker was 180 degrees. It had melted the insulation off. The heat screwed up the little breaker. He changed the main to a temporary and wired most of the offending lights to another small breaker. That was a temporary fix. They needed to replace the breaker box. The fun part is that the meter was inside so they had to install all new service. Yesterday was prep work. Last night Stephanie took Ben to a hotel so he wouldn’t be here when they cut power for the rest of the work, but Ben wouldn’t sleep in the hotel. Power was out for six hours. Stephanie took Ben away from the house in the morning and kept him out the whole time. But he was dysregulated and threw up a couple of times. The work got done, everyone is home now, and all but one of the lights and one of the outlets work again. Yay! Nobody died.
