Latter Day Sinner

If you’ve spent much time with me online you know that I have grave and growing concerns about Christianity. Today I watched A Muppet Christmas Carol. Near the end Scrooge wipes the snow off his own gravestone to reveal his name. He begs the ghost of Christmas future that it will not be so. But the thing is nothing Scrooge can do can save him from death. Stephanie pointed out that if he died a pauper he wouldn’t have a gravestone. But he would still be dead. It struck me more than usual that this was about Christian salvation. I do not want either of the extremes of Scrooge and I certainly don’t trust giving away everything I own to save my soul. That’s just a fairytale meant to keep people from generational wealth. Stay Awesome. Stay Weird. Or Stay Away.
