It is well established that the human mind learns best the ideas that are repeated to it. This is compounded when those ideas are repeated by the person whose mind is in question. Steven Covey taught that one of the best ways to learn something is to teach it. We go over the information coming in and going out, and the process reinforces that information. This is uncontroversial psychology. The problem comes when the information is false and the teaching is misguided. There was a huge case in the 80s of children that received therapy for trauma that they hadn’t actually experienced. The children were guided to report the trauma and their relation of it was accepted unobjectively. The children became convinced that the trauma was real and it took years to unravel that the “memories” were false ones. I don’t believe any malice was involved just the simple psychology of learning by repetition. I probably have some false memories and you probably do too.
