I Deserve to be Heard

I saw my counselor today. I told him about the state of my life, about my relationship with Stephanie now that there is zero chance to save the marriage, about what a least restrictive environment looks like for the boys and why I still think it’s with me, and about my engagement with The Church, worthiness, and temple recommends. I told him that I am letting go and letting God. His major pushback is that I deserve to be heard. I’m allowing things to happen without asserting myself much. He objects to that. I walked home and watched Ben Vareen perform Mr. Cellophane from the original Muppet Show.

  1. You do deserve to be heard, but you don’t choose your audience.

    1. That’s simply not true. I regularly choose who sees what about me. Sometimes I tell my mom, sometimes I tell Tasha or Danny, and sometimes I tell Michael Kent, Mike Vick, or Jeremy Miller. I try to give each audience a slice of my life that they will find interesting. Sometimes it even works.

      2. And so are you sometimes. That means more to me than you know.

      3. But I am no longer willing to hear out your take on the reason for this divorce or my boundaries.

      4. That’s fair. No fault divorce. Irreconcilable differences.
