Saints and Beer

I am confident at this point that beer is not against my religion. While Joseph Smith Jr was alive the early Saints were allowed mild (alcoholic) drinks. The Word of Wisdom specifically allows mild drinks, so I’m feeling less guilty about drinking a case (12 bottles) of Sam Adams Boston Lager every week. The THC is more questionable but isn’t specifically prohibited in LDS scripture which is probably because the Nephites didn’t have access to marijuana. It probably wasn’t a problem for the early Saints either at least not one worth mentioning in the Doctrine and Covenants. I am not breaking any federal or state laws to access THC so I am obeying, honoring, and sustaining those. But I had a hot drink today and of all my excesses a hot Peppermint Mocha is the most egregious by the letter of the doctrinal law. I am also not eating meat sparingly, but that’s a whole nother post on D&C 89. Maybe I’ll worry aloud about craving meat at some latter point. Until then I will try to stay awesome and suggest you do the same.
