I never qualified on the M16. I couldn’t see the distant targets and I had trouble hitting the ones I could see. I’m trying to think of a point where someone taught me to set the sights on my rifle. I don’t think I ever did so properly and can’t blame myself for that. That metaphor is writ large right now. My sights aren’t set for the life ahead of me. Even if I did know at which goals I was aiming, I still doubt I’d be able to hit them in my current state. It’s all survival mode right now, and I will survive. I always have. I am reminding myself this situation is no different.
