I don’t believe people are created equal, I think it is provably true that we don’t end up equal, and I don’t think we should try to reverse engineer equality. Some people are smarter than me, some people are more creative, some people are more generous, and some people have more influence. Those aren’t the only things that make someone worth more than someone else but it’s a good starting list. Danny likes to remind me that I’m not worth anything. In some ways I think he is right. I’m an insignificant blip in an unfathomably big universe. So maybe I shouldn’t compare my worth to the rest of you insignificant blips. But there is an greater insignificance that weighs on my soul: Worthiness before God. As Paul put it all sin and fall short. Alma adds that we should acknowledge our unworthiness before God at all times. I long for a god that needs me, but one probably does not exist.
