I had a counseling appointment today. Stephanie and I are still on speaking terms so she gave me a ride to it when she picked up Ben. My counselor and I mostly talked about the upcoming divorce. Stephanie has exactly 3 months to change her mind and change mine. All the paperwork is signed and delivered. There is a cooling off period in Wisconsin to give spouses time to reconcile, but she thinks I’m a moral monster. If that were true then she would obviously and absolutely need to divorce me. But from my perspective it is a false accusation so I obviously and absolutely need to divorce her.
My counselor also tried to sell me on getting a driver’s license again. I explained my position on the subject again, and I almost felt like he understood it. There is a bug in the American system that convinces everyone they need a car. Without a car a person can’t be truly independent. But I don’t want independence. I’ve been trying to give some back. Surrendering to God is a difficult concept to wrap a person’s head around but it is much more practical to describe it as surrendering to the better nature of those around me. That’s not quite the same thing but it is on the same sheet of music.
Then I walked home.
