I have gone back to church since Stephanie and I agreed to divorce. In several of the discussions there we’ve been talking about a pattern that is very strange to me. Many people experience more faith in God when times are good and begin to blame Him when things are bad. I am the opposite. When times are good I am much more likely to forget about God. When troubles arrive my need for Him in my life becomes far more poignant. Far from blaming God for my troubles, I acknowledge that I need His help in my life for all the things beyond my control. It’s just much harder for me to surrender to God when I feel like I am winning.
